Learn about IHE and the value of the IHE North American (NA) Connectathon to improve the quality, value, and safety of healthcare by enabling rapid, scalable, and secure access to health information at the point of care. Educational Workshop Overview:

Advancements in health information exchange and the characteristics of interoperability are being shaped by a variety of organizations and initiatives. The Strategic Health Information Exchange Collaborative (SHIEC) will kick off the day providing attendees examples of how The Patient-Centered Data Home (PCDH) works and the impact it is having on the coordination of care efforts.  The Sequoia Project will describe how the eHealth Exchange is influencing national-level health data sharing capabilities that will change the flow of information and how it will impact your local communities. The day will conclude with an exclusive tour of the IHE North American (NA) Connectathon testing floor where attendees will be able to see over 100 organizations, 120 systems, and 550+ engineers testing for health IT interoperability live.

  • Identify how SHIEC’s PCDH improves the exchange of data among health information exchanges and advances interoperability.
  • Describe how initiatives of the Sequoia Project are driving national-level health data sharing capabilities.
  • Highlight successfully implemented IHE case studies.

Patient Data at your Fingertips: Leveraging SHIEC’s Patient-Centered Data Home

Patient Centered Data Home is an initiative of the Strategic Health Information Exchange Collaborative (SHIEC) that puts into practice the vision that clinical data should be available whenever and wherever care occurs and “centered” around the patient to improve patient care. In the presentation, Mr. Dietzman and Mr. Buckner will describe the successes and challenges of Patient Centered Data Home, lessons learned and best practices, and what’s next for the Patient Centered Data Home initiative.

Ms. Davis will share the latest insights from The Sequoia Project, a 501(c)3 non-profit supporting health IT interoperability implementation initiatives, including the eHealth Exchange health data sharing network, Carequality interoperability framework, and the RSNA Image Share Validation testing program. Learn how these initiatives are driving national-level health data sharing capabilities that impact your local communities. Brief case studies, including the benefits of health data exchange with federal agencies, will be presented.
